CSET: NCAR HCR radar moments data


HIAPER Cloud Radar (HCR) moments data collected during the CSET (Cloud Systems Evolution in the Trades) project from 18 June 2015 through 12 August 2012. These are 10Hz data in cfradial format and are available as daily tar files.

  • 1.0 (2016-07-11):

    This dataset has been QC'd.

  • 2.0 (2020-02-24):

    The quality control procedure was updated substantially, resulting in much improved power fields (DBZ, DBMVC, DBMHX), radial velocity, spectrum width, and radar altitude. Echo classification fields and a DBZ field with cloud echo only were added. Reanalysis (ERA5) and topography (GTOPO30) data interpolated onto the HCR time-range grid were added. (See readme file below for details.)

  • 2.1 (2021-04-20):

    Melting layer and icing level fields were added.

  • 3.0 (2022-01-14):

    De-aliased velocity, convective/stratiform echo type, and particle identification were added.

  • 3.1 (2023-11-03):

    Improved echo type and melting layer fields.
