ORCAS: Low Rate (LRT - 1 sps) Navigation, State Parameter, and Microphysics Flight-Level Data - ICARTT format

Summary

This data set includes airborne measurements obtained from the NSF/NCAR HIAPER GV aircraft (Tail Number N677F) during the ORCAS (The O2/N2 Ratio and CO2 Airborne Southern Ocean Study) project. This dataset contains low rate navigation, state parameter, and microphysics flight-level data in ICARTT format.

Versions
  • 0.1 (2016-03-11)
  • 0.2 (2016-05-25):

New files for all flights (include TF) with 2DC vars instead of 1DC

  • 1.0 (2016-11-07):

Final version includes Ht above terrain vars

  • 1.1 (2018-10-16):

Version 1.1 has corrected 2DC data (variables CONC2DCA_LWO, DBAR2DCA_LWO, and PLWC2DCA_LWO). No other data has been changed.

It was discovered that all particles in a single buffer were time-stamped with the data-system time tag of the end off the buffer. For concentrations above 5-10/L, or when in heavy cloud, the system writes multiple buffers per second so the time-stamp will be very close to accurate. When a buffer spans multiple seconds, all the particles were previously binned to the second of the end time-stamp for the buffer. This has now been corrected so data is timestamped across the time-period of the buffer correctly.

In addition, V1.1 changes 2D processing from reconstruction to center-in.
