Low Rate (LRT - 1 sps) Navigation, State Parameter, and Microphysics Flight-Level Data


This dataset includes airborne measurements obtained from the NSF/NCAR HIAPER GV aircraft (Tail Number N677F) during the SOCRATES project. This dataset contains low rate navigation, state parameter, and microphysics flight-level data in netCDF format.

    Updated the preliminary LRT files with 2D-S distributions included.

    Note: 2DS data are not included in this first release of the LRT .nc files 

  • 1.1 (2018-10-16):

    1. Data from the 2DS are now included in the files. Please note that the vertical channel is noisy due to stuck bits for much of the project and should be used with caution.

    2. The CVI data for RF02, RF08, RF09, RF10, RF12, RF14, and RF15 have been updated.

    3. An updated version of 2D processing has been applied to the 2DS and 2DS data. This code uses exact circle fitting for measuring particle size and limits accepted particles to center-in images. For more information on the changes please contact Cory Wolff (

  • 1.2 (2018-10-26):

    Fixes time offset in 2DS data.

  • 1.3 (2019-04-12):

    The low rate files for RF06, RF12, and RF14 have been updated to correct minor issues.

    A couple seconds of additional UHSAS data has now been removed in RF06 and RF14. The older versions of RF12 files erroneously contained all of the RAF housekeeping data. These variables have been removed with no impact on the rest of the data. This was for cleanup and consistency only.
