NCAR/NSF C-130 Navigation, State Parameter, and Microphysics LRT Data - 1 sps [EOL]

Project:

Summary

This data set includes airborne measurements obtained from the NSF/NCAR Research Aviation Facility (RAF) C-130Q Hercules aircraft (Tail Number N130AR) during the "Rain In Cumulus over the Ocean" project which took place from 7 December 2004 to 24 January 2005. This data set contains the Low-Rate (LRT, 1 Sample Per Second) production data set. The LRT Bitfile log lists times and dates of individual flights.

Versions
  • 1.0 (2011-05-17)
  • 1.1 (2022-06-01):

    Processing Update:

    • Correction to 2DC and 2DP data from previous merge. There is an updated algorithm in nimbus resulting in 2DC concentrations 20% higher and 2DP concentrations 20% to 80% higher.
    • FSSP: Removed overflow & coincidence correction resulting in approximately 10% reduction in total concentrations and liquid water.
    • 260X: Updated FirstBin from 1 to 5 resulting in a reduction in total concentrations ranging from 20% to 90% in total concentrations.
    • Liquid water remains similar to the prior version of the data, as most 260x water is generally in bins 5 and larger.

Please contact Chris Webster (cjw@ucar.edu) with any questions regarding this update.

  • 1.2 (2024-05-01):

    Processing update:

    •  FSSP rejection updated to include overflow particles.  Previously only included rejected average transit.  This has produced about 1-1.5% relative error in the concentration variables CS100 and CONCF.
    •  FSSP raw counts data (AS100) we cleared out the zeroth bin of the histogram.  It previously had the total counts from the 30 bins.  We zeroed this to avoid any confusion

Please contact Chris Webster (cjw@ucar.edu) with any questions regarding this update.
