CONS: Convective Storms

Summary

The Convection Storms (CONS) project utilized the QueenAir, B-80 and A-80 aircrafts to measure the precipitation growth generated in convective clouds. It resolved some of the existing uncertainties pertaining to precipitation growth taking place during recirculation, weak updrafts or in pre-existing turrets. One QueenAir aircraft provided time-lapse photography of the cloud turrets under study and the other aircraft provided observations necessary for defining inflow thermodynamics as well as making airflow and cloud physics measurements near the cloud base.
