DLR: DLR Falcon with dropsondes
Summary
NOAA and DLR are instrumenting high altitude jet aircraft for meteorological research and operations. One of the primary mission requirements for the aircraft is to obtain atmospheric profiles below the aircraft. SSSF will design and build a new, state-of-the-art dropsonde using GPS windfinding technology and will also design and build the associated aircraft data system, capable of receiving data from multiple sondes simultaneously. University collaboration: This is a facility development project and includes no direct university involvement.
