HS3 2013 Global Hawk Dropsonde Data

This data set contains Global Hawk dropsonde data from seven research flights of the unmanned NOAA/NASA Global Hawk (GH) aircraft conducted between 20 August and 19 September 2013 for the Hurricane and Severe Storm Sentinel (HS3) project. The GH is equipped with an NCAR/NOAA dropsonde system specially designed for remote operation. A total of 433 quality controlled soundings are contained in the final HS3 dropsonde data set.

Additional information

Data Quality final
  • 3.0 (2013-12-19):

This dataset has been corrected for a temperature dependent RH dry bias. This dataset included an error that has been removed from version 4.0.

  • 4.0 (2013-12-19):

This dataset has been corrected for a temperature dependent RH dry bias and has corrected for an error in the previously updated version.

  • 1.0 (2013-12-19)
  • 2.0 (2015-05-06):

Files were corrected for gross errors in the GPS latitude and longtiude in approximately half of the type II HS3-2013 soundings.

  • 3.1 (2016-06-09):

This dataset includes files that had been incorrectly duplicated from version 4.0. This dataset was never released and has been set to 3.1 to indicate that it is not the most recent or correct version.

  • 5.0 (2016-07-29):

This dataset includes a correction for a temperature dependent RH dry bias and a dew point temperature correction.
